PROJECT SOAR II is an academic program that serves the class of 2011 (currently 9th grade high school students) in the Oakland Unified School District and is administered through California State University East Bay.

Project SOAR II is funded by the US Department of Education's GEAR UP Initiative, whose goal is to prepare low-income students to succeed in college. Our program will enable students to achieve grade-level standards and learn what college is all about, while providing a network of assistance and a village of supporters.  OUR MISSION: Project SOAR students will be successful contributors to society, equipped with the knowledge and skills to triumph personally and academically in college and beyond.

MAJOR STRATEGIES:  Four major goals guide Project SOAR II strategies in pursuit of this vision.

  • Academic Goal: To increase student academic performance and eligibility for college
  • Parent Empowerment Goal: To help parents play a meaningful role in preparing their child for college.
  • Systemic Goal: To build capacity of school site personnel to improve student awareness about college, and increase eligibility.
  • Community Partnership Goal: To enhance community investment by obtaining matching contributions.  These contributions will be used to support program activities and to build a scholarship fund for SOAR students.
